LEARNING & TEACHING ON UNIVERSITY PROGRAMMES

Dr. Diaper has a quarter of a century of learning and teaching
experience on computing and psychology degree programmes, and occasionally on
other programmes, e.g. in Business Schools.
Once the Head of the Department of Computing at
Dr. Diaper is particularly expert at teaching qualitative and quantitative methods, including statistics, in both computing and in psychology (N.B. There are many differences in these two disciplines’ methods, as when psychology is a science whereas computing, excluding computer science as a branch of applied mathematics, is an engineering discipline, as is applied psychology). In addition to teaching such methods on university degree programmes, this area of expertise makes Dr. Diaper particularly skilled with final year undergraduate and postgraduate student projects, which he offers to assist with in a variety of capacities.
As a starting point for possible specialist topics, Dr. Diaper’s research interests might provide an initial guide. More highly specialised topics, suitable for a few hours learning and teaching, can be discussed with him.
In computing, Dr. Diaper can, and has over the years, taught most things that occur in the first two years of an undergraduate degree programme. Apart from research methods courses mentioned above, his other main courses for undergraduate and taught postgraduate degree programs have been in: software engineering; HCI and CSCW; AI; ethics and professionalism, and, less recently, on the history and philosophy of computing.
In psychology, and apart from research methods courses mentioned above, Dr. Diaper can offer undergraduate and postgraduate learning and teaching in: cognitive psychology; psychophysics; AI; applied psychology (cognitive ergonomics, HCI, etc.); and the history and philosophy of mind. Other topics, at least suitable for undergraduate degree programmes and related to Dr. Diaper’s research, include psycholinguistics, social and organisational psychology.
